About Ain Shams Obelisk Hostel

In a suburb of northeast Cairo, a red granite obelisk towering above ramshackle homes is the last visible vestige of a nearly 7,000-year old city where ancient Egyptians believed life began. Archaeologists say they soon expect to unearth other artifacts and unlock the secrets of the sun-cult city of 'On' buried beneath today's suburbs of Ain Shams, (which means 'eye of the sun' in Arabic), and the adjacent area of Matariya.'

Our Hostel is located 5 minutes away from this historic obelisk
Each room has two to three beds, with phone facilities, cable TV, internet access ( chargeable ), fan, a desk, two arm chairs and a small table.

To reach the Cairo Museum and downtown it only costs 10 cents (US Dollars) by subway. 25 cents to Giza Pyramids and Sphinx
We can organise a few days for you to enjoy the Mediterranean beach in Al Areash, north of Egypt.

We are happy to help you learn about our culture and as a result we provide many entertaining books on Egypt as well as Pharoah pictures on our wall. If the culture gets to be too much, relax by playing one of the board games we provide such as backgammon, chess, and dominoes. In the yard chill out and meet other guests by the BBQ or play some table tennis!
