About Global Village Hostel
Stretching from the Pyrenees in the north on the border with France to its southern tip that almost touches Africa, Spain is a cultural as well as almost a literal bridge between cultures and climates. Most people might think of Spain as beautiful beaches and a hot, arid midsection, but a country this large is bound to have more diversity than that. Yes, there are great beaches - the eastern half of the country does lie on the Mediterranean, after all. And yes, there are parts of the country where any kind of physical activity in the heat of midday is a sign of madness (or a cause of it). But there are also beautiful snow-capped mountains in the north, posh resort towns with hot springs, meadows and marshlands. Combine that with fantastic cuisine and the Spanish zest for life and you've got a top-notch holiday destination.
If you're a city person, you'll want to spend time in the lively capital of Spain, Madrid, and the cosmopolitan Barcelona. Those two cities alone will give you plenty to see and do, from museums and art galleries to dancing and partying, but if you're still hungry for more, Spain doesn't disappoint. From the beaches of the Alicante and Balearic Islands to the Flamenco-filled Sevilla to the U.K.-held Gibraltar, you could spend months in Spain and barely scratch the surface. And heck, if you're in the South, you might as well take a day-trip to Tangier in Morocco, right?
Spain has a network of trains, but it's often easier to get around by bus. To get between the larger cities, the trains have a great record of timeliness. If you'll be making a few long-distance trips, a Spain Eurail Pass might be worthwhile.
Thankfully, there are plenty of Spain hostels to make sure sleeping in Spain doesn't break the bank. You can browse the lists by selecting the cities on this page, or let the computer narrow your search down by plugging your travel itinerary into the box on this page and telling you what's available when you want to go. Also, see the Madrid hostels and Barcelona hostels for more specific information about those cities. And if you're still planning your Spain holiday, you can search for international airfare to Spain and read all about what to do and see when you get there in the Spain Travel Guide.
