This private Backpacker's Hostel is located in Bergheim, directly on the western border of Cologne, situated in the local nature park and recreation area of Kottenforst-Ville. Its location provides easy access to Cologne, Bonn, Dusseldorf and Aachen.The house is 50 m away from the bank of the river Erft. Our section of the Erft belongs to the European-renowned bicycle paths of the Erftroute, the Wasserburgenroute (water castle route) and the Kaiserroute, as described in any bicycle guide. The lodging is appropriate in the small suburb Quadrath-Ichendorf, world-wide known as the best german equestrian haven, due to the famous german horse breeding 'Gestut Schlenderhahn'. In addition, there are more than 30 horse farms in our region. The area of the CHIO in Aachen, where the World Equestrian Championships will be held in August 2006, can be reached in less than 30 minutes.One who likes a little more speed and horse power can visit the city of Kerpen, only 5 km away, the birth city of the Schumacher brothers, with the Michael Schumacher Cart-Center and his F1-Motor-Sports-Museum.Here in the suburbs of Cologne you can discover the real Cologne lifestyle and Karneval. The large Karneval parade in the city center is predominantly held for TV-viewers and for normal tourists. There are also local parades which are less overcrowded and considered more fun by our guests (note that these start the days from Thursday before ).This August, 6 km from here, at the former Frechen open mining (Marienfeld), the closing ceremony of the 20th World Youth Days in Cologne is held, which will be attended by the Pope.The hostel offers bed&breakfast&fun in a very warm, private, and familiar atmosphere plus any assistance and information needed to discover Cologne and the region. In addition, depending on your interests, we can advise you on both the well-known and less well-known attractions.From the nearby station Kerpen-Horrem, it takes only approximately 15 minutes to get to the center of Cologne (main train station) and its world famous cathedral and lots of other attractions. In only a few minutes more you are at the airport Cologne/Bonn, at the fair trade center (Koln-Messe) in Koln-Deutz and new Cologne Arena or in the center of Dusseldorf, Bonn or Aachen. In less than 15 Minutes open-air-, sports- and soccer-friends are at the Rheinenergie-Stadium Cologne.We recommend that you come back to spend your evenings in Bergheim, where you will appreciate breathing the uncontaminated and fresh countryside air from the west. You will also have the advantage of sitting with us at the fire-place or in summer, in our garden at the pond which is filled with beautiful Japanese Koi. Here you can tell us what you discovered during the day and sing some songs with us. Don't forget to bring along your guitar! Not possible? Then you can borrow my second one!Of course all guests are welcome. This includes the young and young at heart, backpackers and non-backpackers alike. However we ask that those here only for business purposes utilize other accomodations in the area. This is to ensure the warm atmosphere Backpacker's Hostel Bergheim tries to maintain. Packages for stays of several days or weeks with additional activities included can be purchased. For example, Cologne fair trade guests, occupation commuters, commuting students, equestrian friends (with riding opportunities), bicycle rentals, kajak rentals on the Erft, etc., are elegible for potential packages.We are able to speak English quite well and of course German.If there are no more beds to book, don't hesitate to ask for some extra beds by email, please.We are not always the best, but always the merriest.See ya in Bergheim near Cologne this year!
