About Highbrae Guesthouse

Experience a taste of early Dunedin history, while enjoying 21st century comfort at Highbrae. Take in the attractions of one of New Zealand's oldest cities, including heritage train journeys, architecture, scenic tours (world's steepest street) and unique wildlife viewing of Royal Albatross and Yellow Eyed Penguin. Highbrae Guesthouse was built on the High Street in 1908. Its architecture reflects the period, featuring the art nouveau characteristics of the day. Today this impressive home, which offers commanding views of the city and harbour, provides first class bed and breakfast accommodation to its guests. All the rooms are carefully restored to preserve their character for visitors who delight in the many original features of the home. Guests share the large modernised Italian main bathroom. A second bathroom and toilet are downstairs,as well as a dedicated guest lounge with open fire, which offers a comfortable space for reading, relaxation, conversation or television viewing. All day tea and coffee are available. A light Kiwi breakfast consisting of cereals, toast, honey, jams, fruit, yoghurt, fruit juice, coffee and tea is included in the tariff. A cooked breakfast can be offered as an extra on request. Hosts Stephen & Fienie Clark are happy to offer recommendations for local restaurants and cafes serving lunch and dinner in the city; a short 10/15 minute walk from Highbrae. The bus stop is at the front gate for guests who prefer to ride or take a tour to see the wildlife or the sights of the city.
