Brown Sugar Backpackers Johannesburg is housed in a safe and secure mansion situated just 15 minutes from the airport and about 10 minutes from the city centre. We are a haven for people who prefer to do their own thing and don't like rules reminding them not to...(fill in the blanks yourself!).

The house is set on a variety of levels and was built by the infamous Mafiosi, Mannie da Rocha. The well-stocked bar doubles as a reception desk where, as well as ordering your beer (or favourite soft drink), you can arrange tours and book transfers to the Apartheid Museum, Museum Africa, Soweto and the big bad city centre. We also run regular trips to the Eastgate Centre which contains all the shopping, eating and cinema facilities you could ever want.

The staff at Brown Sugar are specialists in advising travellers on the best and quickest ways to obtain visas for countries such as Mozambique and Zimbabwe and, on request, we take our guests to the relevant embassies and help them with application forms and photographs and more. For those travellers needing visas for Angola, the embassy is within walking distance of the house.

Brown Sugar has all the amenities and facilities you would expect - free bus station pickup, free tea and coffee all day and even a jacuzzi. Brown Sugar also has a rooftop patio which offers some of the best views of the city.
