El Viajero Hostel is located in a beautiful 19th-century house with all the comfort of the 21th-century: High roofs topped with wide skylights, fireplace, barbecue, solarium, bar, HVAC in every room, cable TV, DVDs, Wi-Fi Internet, bathroom in all dorms, privates suites, bike rental and horse riding.

We organize activities for you, both inside and outside the Hostel: Asados and typical foods, bike and walking tours, horse riding in the countryside and the beach, visits to museums, wineries, national parks, tourist ranches and the cheese shops that elaborate the renowned cheese from Colonia Suiza.

Colonia del Sacramento was founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, and the Spaniards took hold of it in 1681, then the government of Buenos Aires was in charge in 1705 and in 1735 the city was sieged by the Spaniards for two years. In 1756 begins the "War of the seven years" and in 1826 Colonia suffered a bombardment by the Argentineans, until finally in December of 1828, it was released to the Uruguayan army.

It is considered the most beautiful city in Uruguay, due to the Historical Town and its museums, the Plaza Mayor with its restaurants, the Iglesia Matriz (the oldest church in Uruguay), the lighthouse, which you will find perfect for sightseeing: the old city, the beaches, the countryside and the national parks.
