About YWCA Garden Hotel

No. 33 Courtyard and No. 35 Courtyard in Xitangzi Hutong and No. 36 Courtyard in Ganyu Hutong originally formed a whole courtyard, which was built as a kind of Siheyuan (a dwelling compound arranged in quadrangle) with three-courtyard which there was a garden. Based on written records, this courtyard was founded more than two hundred years ago and once served as residence for Zuo Zongtang, a famous senior official of late Qing dynasty, and his family; and the private dwelling for Fu Xuezhai, a noted master of Chinese painting who lived in the period of the Republic of China.
In 1936, Beijing YWCA in order to develop social service, purchasing this courtyard as buildings (the former address: No. 18, Jia No. 18, Xitangzi Hutong) through raising funds among our members. And in the summer of 2005, the government appropriated funds for repairing of the buildings located at No. 35 and part of buildings located at No. 33 in Xitangzi Hutong. As the first Siheyuan renovation project of Beijing ?Humanistic Olympics? Cultural Relic Protection Program, it was successfully completed in the autumn of 2007. Then, Beijing YWCA decided that the building located at No. 35 in Xitangzi Hutong has been used to open a hotel, is Beijing YWCA Garden Hotel.
