About Hotel Ecolodge Lake Coter

ECO LODGE HOTELS
COSTA RICAN SMALL HOTELS

Built in 1990, The Eco Lodge Hotel was the first lodge built in Latin America using an economic endowment from the World Bank. It was created as a pilot model for Latin America, and its mission was to preserve the environment and develop a true ecotourism program. To do this, among other things, Eco Lodge decided to keep 218 hectares of primary forest as a private reserve, becoming a pioneer in conservation and adventure sports in harmony with the ecosystem.
Eco Lodge is well known for its 13 years of service, as a source of work for the town of Nuevo Arenal, as one of the principal income sources for the Maleku Indians and as a center of environmental education for local and foreign ecotourism. Outstanding services, nice cozy rooms, superb cuisine, bird watching, canopy tour, horseback riding, sport fishing and several other activities from where to choose, create the perfect combination of pleasure and adventure all in a customized package specially designed to fulfill all expectations.
Located in northeast Costa Rica, the Eco Lodge is a private reserve with 250 hectares of primary rain forest, 50 hectares of secondary forest, and 18 hectares of farmland. It lies on Lake Coter, between the Arenal Volcano and Tenorio Volcano National Park, in a middle elevation area, from 2300 to 3600 feet (700 to 1100 meters) above sea level, on the Tilaran Mountain Range.

Winds from the Atlantic sweep westbound to the Pacific, thus promoting the dispersal of various flora and fauna species.

The richest avifauna of Costa Rica is found in the rain forest of the Caribbean lowlands and middle elevations. Neighboring National Parks and the diversity of habitats within our private reserve - farmlands, forest and lake make of Eco Lodge a birding paradise.

MALEKU INDIANS

Maleku Indian Communal Huts or Palenques

As part of our policy of interaction with our environment, both natural and cultural, we have established an agreement with the Maleku Indian Community. This community of approximately 600 indigenous people is located about 30 kilometers away from the hotel and they have built 2 Communal Huts or "Palenques" on our reserve to provide an opportunity to interact with them and to learn about their traditions, food and culture. Moreover, by buying their crafts you have the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the indigenous community.
