About Alam Sari Hotel

Alam Sari hotel is owned by New Zealanders, Hugh and Aprile Collett, long time residents in Indonesia. They are also educators who have worked in international schools based in Indonesia for over 26 years. Hugh and Aprile and all the Alam Sari staff hope that not only will guests experience what is truly Bali, but will also see how we are committed in many other ways to preserving the natural, cultural and social environment of Bali.

Most of our staff are from the nearby villagesthat surround Alam Sari and we are proud to work with these villages to promote their crafts and skills in the items we sell in our hotel shop Cooperation with the village extends to the village walk which we are very proud of. In this free experience our guests see the beauty and interesting features of a traditional Balinese village and are then privileged to visit a home where daily life goes on and the beautiful miniature art work which Keliki is famous for is practiced. This exquisite work can be purchased by guests direct from the artist at very reasonable prices.

In addition to the employment both direct and secondary we offer to local residents, we also support village cultural and sporting life with donations and sponsorship. We have our own badminton and volleyball teams which compete in local competitions and have been annual sponsors of the Ubud Writers Festival since its inception. We support the local school with textbooks and other needed educational items, and arrange visits for guests and groups to meet the children, thus forming a lasting relationship between the school and hotel.

We are increasingly hosting groups of school children from national and international schools on educational trips and these often involve some form of community service to the local community which involves valuable learning experiences for all concerned.
We continue to look creatively for ways to improve facilities at Alam Sari and its relationship with the local village and surrounding area. Our guests frequently comment that when they have visited Alam Sari and met the friendly staff they leave rejuvenated, and with a greater appreciation for what is the true essence of Bali.
