About Lionsrock

LIONSROCK is a unique combination of a Big Cats Sanctuary and a comfortable Lodge. Enjoy a stay at a relaxed atmosphere with pure wildlife experience and support on the same time - just with your stay - the project.

LOCATION:
Situated in the Free Sate, around 3h from Johannesburg and Durban it is an ideal stop on your way to the Drakensberge, Lesotho, the Golden Gate Nationalpark or Clarens. Transport to Bethlehem, which is only 18km away can be arrange to provide you with all the things you need.

PARK:
The area of LIONSROCK is 1200 hektar and full of typical South African Wildlife species. Enjoy watching Elands, Zebras, Wildebeest, Impalas, Springbocks and a variety of bird species at the park.

SANCTUARY:
Inside the park you will also find the Big Cats Sanctuary. More than 60 lions, leopards, cheetahs and caracals in need - confiscated by authorities or held in poor living conditions in zoos or in private - finally found a species-appropriate environment at LIONSROCK.

ACCOMODATION:
We offer different kinds of accommodation, but all of them have their own bathroom and terrace. And the best, a breakfast of your choice at the restaurant is included!

SELF-CATERING CHALETS
Different Chalets for 4 to 12 people, which all have their own fully equipped kitchen, separated sleeping rooms, a fire place inside and Braai facilities at the terrace.

DOUBLE & TWIN ROOMS
All are equipped with a TV, an electric kettle to make your own coffee and tea and electric blankets when nights get cool.


RESTAURANT & BAR:
The restaurant provides - beside the great breakfast - typical South African food, which is worth tasting. Also ask for a braii that is served at the wooden sundeck. You will never forget dining while you hear in the distance the roaring of
the lions! During day time you can relax at the Tee garden with view to the waterhole in front of the "Lionsrock" and in the evening relax at the fully licensed and well stocked bar only two steps from your room.

SERVICES:
We have internet access for those you want to chat from time to time, at the lounge area is a big plasma TV and a pool table. What is really special is the Jacuzzi with view on the park! Sometimes helpful is the laundry service.

ACTIVITES:
Inside the park you will lots of things to do!

You can follow one of the numerous HIKING TRAILS through the impressive sandstone formations and even climb up the "Lionsrock", a hill in the middle of the park.

The more adventurous ones can also explore the park with MOUNTAINBIKES or take the opportunity for a HORSE RIDING experience.

Most popular are the different GAME DRIVES. With guides you can go on the "Sanctuary Game drive" hearing a lot about big cats and the individual stories. At the "Park game drive" you will additionally see all the different game species in the park. Very special is the "Sunset game drive" where you will be driven to a scenic spot and celebrate sunset the South African way. Enjoy your sundowner-drink while having an amazing view to the Drakensberge and Lesotho.

Within driving distance for a day trip are: Golden Gate Nationalpark, Basotho Cultural Village, Clarens, vulture damn, Lesotho, the battlefields, the visit of a traditional Basotho household and if you are here at spring a visit at local cherry farmers.
