Why stay in San Sebastian?
San Sebastian is a lovely seaside town in Spain's Basque region, and is a great spot if you are on holiday principally in order to hang out on the beach, enjoy some water sports and do some shopping. San Sebastian also has lots of great little restaurants and cafes to break up your beachgoing days nicely and give you energy for marathon shopping excursions. If you want a break from water and stores, you can also hike up the big hill between the town's two main beaches to see the Chris statue on the top up close and personal.
San Sebastian is easy to get around in on foot or, if necessary, by taxi, so you should have no trouble getting from your hostel to anyplace else in the city and back. Accommodations, like many other things in San Sebastian, are not always cheap - so in order to secure a cheap room you will want to book in advance. It is important to remember that "hostels" are not just for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are ideal for budget-conscious travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers. A couple San Sebastian hostels worth mentioning are highlighted below.
David Quinn Alai-berri is in the center of town, 2 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from the old quarter. Olga's Place is only 100 meters from the beach and enjoys excellent views of the water as well.
There are two different apartments managed by Surf Zurriola Apartment and both are next to Zurriola beach. Enjoy San Sebastian - Urban House is centrally located in the old town of San Sebastian between the beaches, each of which is about 5 minutes away.
If none of these hostels sounds like it will be perfect for you, do not worry. There are other San Sebastian hostels where those came from. Just keep reading the listings until you find the one that suits you.
