Why stay in Cairo?

Cairo is an incredibly large and crowded city that most travelers might avoid if not for the city's historical importance and proximity to the Giza Pyramids. But as overwhelming as Cairo can be, it is worth a few days to really get used to the chaos. Besides, it would not be a good thing to have stayed in Cairo only to see the Pyramids and to have skipped the Egyptian Museum. A few years down the line you would regret that decision. So why not stay for a few days?
A city the size of Cairo is bound to have plenty of hostels and other budget accommodations, and Cairo does. You will want to make sure the hostel you choose is in a part of town either close to the sights you want to see or close to a Metro stop so you can get from place to place easily. Keep in mind that "hostels" are not just for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are ideal for budget-conscious travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers. A few Cairo hostels worth mentioning are highlighted below.
Desert Safary Hostel is directly in front of the Egyptian Museum. Paris Hotel Cairo is in downtown Cairo, a two minute walk from the Egyptian Museum and Metro Station.
Let Me Inn is also in downtown Cairo near the main sights. African House Hotel is a three minute walk from the Ramses train station, and 12 minutes from the Egyptian Museum.
If none of these hostels sounds like it will be perfect for your needs, never fear. There are other Cairo hostels where those came from. Just keep reading the listings until you find the one that sounds best to you.
