Why stay in Singapore?
Singapore - is it an island or a country or a city? The answer is yes.
This SE Asian island-state-city is incredibly rich, incredibly busy and incredibly green. Famous for being clean and tropical, it's got a great nightlife scene and plenty of skyscrapers. You'll find people of all backgrounds living in Singapore, as it has become an important site for world business. Enjoy Singapore's famous cuisine and shopping, relax on the beaches, take in the colonial buidings and museums, explore the different cultural neighborhoods and go green in the Jurong Bird Park and Botanical Gardens, Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and Bukit Timah Nature Walk. Just don't expect to find the prices like those of any other SE Asian nation - Singapore asks for a bit more money than its neighbors.
Despite its wealthy reputation, Singapore still has its share of budget accommodations. Some of them are in the kinds of neighborhoods you probably wouldn't be interested in spending much time in, including the ones that rent rooms by the hour (the Geylang and Balestier districts in particular), but others are in perfectly reputable districts. Wherever you look, do keep in mind that "hostels" aren't just for young backpackers anymore - they're perfect for budget-conscious people who want to meet fellow travelers. A few notable Singapore hostels are highlighted here.
Sleepy Sam's Bed & Breakfast is in the old Sultan's palace compaounds, now the Malay heritage conservation area, and is close to public transit. Betel Box Backpacker Hostel is in the Katong district near the beach and seven kilometers from the city center. It's close to buses and trains to get downtown easily.
A Travellers Rest-Stop is in Singapore's Chinatown and offers private rooms or mixed dorms. One Florence Close has only eight private rooms, and is a few minutes from Chinatown, Little India, Orchard Road and Sentosa.
And if these don't sound like exactly what you're looking for, there's no need to worry - there are plenty more Singapore hostels listed here. Keep reading descriptions until one of them strikes your fancy.
If you haven't already booked your flight, search for cheap airfare to Singapore and get on your way. And don't forget to read more about the city before you go in the Singapore Travel Guide.
