Why stay in Ho Chi Minh City?

Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon as it is also called, is Vietnam's largest city and one of the most popular places to visit. It was once the capital of the Republic of Vietnam (the south), and many of the main attractions are war-related. Ho Chi Minh City is also a great place to sample the incredible variety of Vietnamese food and shop in the city's excellent markets.

Getting around in Ho Chi Minh City can be a challenge - the sidewalks are overrun by motorbikes, so stay alert while walking. You can take advantage of the city's relatively new buses, take a taxi or rent your own motorbike. No matter what transportation you choose, getting to and from your hostel should not be a problem - just make sure your hostel is close to the things you want to see, or that it is close to a bus line. Keep in mind that "hostels" are not just for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are ideal for budget-conscious travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers. A few Ho Chi Minh City hostels worth mentioning are highlighted below.

The Lacrapro Hotel is about a 15 minute drive from the city center and there are plenty of shops for travel necessities nearby. Bed and Breakfast Ho Van Hue is not far from the airport in a quiet and safe part of the city.

The Luan Vu Guesthouse and Phan Lan 2 Guesthouse are run by the same people. They are both located in the center of the backpacker area of the city. Redsun Hotel is in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, a short walk from many major sights.

If none of these hostels sounds like it will be perfect for your needs, never fear. There are other Ho Chi Minh City hostels where those came from. Just keep reading the listings until you find the one that sounds best to you.

Is there anything else we can help you with for your trip? Remember that you can look for the best deals on international airfare to Ho Chi Minh City and book your ticket now. You can also learn more about the area in our Ho Chi Minh City Travel Guide.
