Why stay in Vienna?
Vienna is the capital of the small country of Austria, and its largest city. Some Viennese might be reserved, but they're also unfailingly polite, leaving many visitors with fond memories of their time in the city.
The historic center of Vienna is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but the city is absolutely full of interesting things to see and do. Long the city of the Hapsburgs, Vienna has former palaces and castles which have been turned into museums and are well worth visiting. The most visited of these is the former summer palace of the Hapsburgs, Schloss Schönbrunn. In addition to the buildings, there are wonderful gardens and the oldest zoo in the world. There are beautiful cathedrals and churchs dotting the city, and the lovely Prater Park with its enormous ferris wheel. Vienna is also a city with a very musical history, and for having such a formal surface, Vienna has a thriving electronic music scene and busy nightlife - so save some of your energy for after dinner.
Vienna has plenty of budget accommodations to choose from. Keep in mind that "hostels" aren't just for young backpackers anymore - they're just for budget-conscious travelers who want to meet fellow travelers. A few Vienna hostels worth mentioning are highlighted here.
Wombat's City Hostel Vienna - The Lounge is the newer Wombat's hostel in Vienna, opened in 2006. It's a one-minute walk from train and underground stations. Wombat's other Vienna location, Wombat's City Hostel Vienna - The Base, has been open since 1999 and has received high marks from guests and guidebooks for years.
Hostel Ruthensteiner is a three-minute walk from the Westbahnhof Train Station, walking distance from the city center and is non-smoking. The Westend City Hostel is also close to the Westbahnhof Train Station and includes breakfast with your stay.
And if none of these hostels sounds like what you're looking for, don't worry - there are other Vienna hostels to choose from. Just read through the descriptions until you find the right one.
