Why stay in Frankfurt?

Frankfurt might not be the first place you'd think of when considering a visit to Germany, but since it's where many visitors enter the country you might as well stop and look around a little bit, right?

Frankfurt is home to a gigantic international airport, but it's also home to some of the most interesting skyscrapers you'll see in Europe. It's a great city for architecture enthusiasts to visit, as those modern skyscrapers coexist peacefully alongside old buildings as well. Also coexisting peacefully alongside one another are the diverse groups that make Frankfurt their home - from bankers and businessmen to students and hippies, you'll see it all in Frankfurt.

Because of its importance as a business city as well as a tourist one, there are times when you wouldn't expect the city to be busy but you find that it is. This is usually due to a trade fair going on, and it can make finding accommodations difficult at any price. To be sure you have got a bed with your name on it - and to be sure you don't pay too much - be sure to book early.

Frankfurt's student population means that there are some hostels in the city - you just need to find the one that suits your personality. Keep in mind that "hostels" aren't just for young people anymore - they're just for budget-conscious travelers who want to meet other travelers. Don't worry if you don't see the word "hostel" in the names of every property listed here, either - sometimes even the cheapest accommodations are still called hotels. A few notable Frankfurt hostels are highlighted here.

Hotel Excelsior Frankfurt am Main has nearly 200 rooms and sits at the south side of the main train station. They say they offer a "full American breakfast" - you get to decide whether that's a good or bad thing. Pension Bruns is in a quiet area of Frankfurt, a few minutes' walk from the main train station and downtown.

Hotel Europa is near the train station and within walking distance from anything you'd want to do or see in Frankfurt. The Stay & Learn Hostel is across the street from the train station and they say they're so close to everything you won't even need to take public transportation.

And if none of these properties looks right for you, there are more Frankfurt hostels waiting to receive your reservation. Just keep browsing until you find the right one.
