Why stay in Riga?
Latvia's capital city of Riga is gaining in popularity as a tourist destination, as travelers venture beyond Western Europe and into countries which were once part of the USSR. Riga's old town is a lovely place to wander and enjoy the architecture, and the city is full of parks and green spaces where you can enjoy nice weather. If you are on the lookout for Soviet-era memorabilia, try the outdoor markets.
Getting around Riga is easy with the public transit systems, including trams, buses and trolleys, so you should have no trouble getting from your hostel to anything you want to do and see in Riga. There are plenty of hostels in the city, but you might want to book early to make sure you do not have to pay too much for your bed. Be sure to keep in mind that "hostels" are not only meant for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are perfect for budget-minded travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers.
