Why stay in Krakow?
Krakow is the third-largest city in Poland, and one of the country's oldest cities. It lies on both sides of the Wisla river and is Poland's most popular tourist destination.
The area most visitors will want to spend time in is the Old City, or Stare Miasto. In this historic part of Krakow you can see the Florian Gate (the only surviving part of the old city wall), the Royal Castle and Cathedral on the hill called Wawel and the Rynek Glowny, or Main Market Square (a large medieval square). You can also see the home where Pope John Paul II lived in Krakow, the Palac Biskupow Krakowskich. The Kazimierz is the Jewish quarter, and where many of the events depicted in the movie Schindler's List took place. The Old City is also famous for the sheer number of dining and drinking establishments it houses - you certainly won't go hungry or thirsty in Krakow.
As Krakow becomes more and more popular as a tourist destination, the prices for accommodations will continue to rise. You can get a cheap room not far from the Old City, however. Remember that "hostels" aren't just for young backpackers anymore - they're perfect for budget-conscious people who want to meet fellow travelers. A few Krakow hostels worth noting are highlighted here.
Ars Hostel claims that you'll only get to know the best Polish cuisine by staying there and eating their prepared meals. Tutti Frutti Hostel is in the heart of the city near lots of restaurants and clubs.
Mama's Hostel is next to the Main Market Square, right in the Old City. Greg-Tom Hostel is near Krakow's largest shopping center and a six minute walk from the Old City.
And if these don't sound like exactly what you're looking for, there's no need to worry - there are plenty more Krakow hostels listed here. Keep reading descriptions until one of them strikes your fancy.
If you haven't already booked your flight, search for cheap airfare to Krakow and get on your way. And don't forget to read more about the city before you go in the Krakow Travel Guide.
