Why stay in Glasgow?

Glasgow and Edinburgh might be close on a map of Scotland, but they're quite different from one another. Glasgow is Scotland's largest city, and it's much more of a regular Scottish city than its more tourist-focused neighbor, Edinburgh. Glasgow is historically an industrial city, but is recently becoming more of a culture city as well. It's well worth a visit.

Glasgow's city center is a draw for locals and visitors alike, with fantastic shopping, nice parks and several museums and art galleries. Some of the more interesting are Sharmanka (a museum of kinetic machines), Tenement House (an actual early 20th century tenement house, preserved for posterity), the Glasgow Science Center (full of interactive exhibits and an IMAX theatre) and the Museum of Transport (all kinds of transportation methods are included). The city also has some fine examples of Victorian-era buildings, built during the city's heyday. Glasgow was also the birthplace of the famous art nouveau architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and his influence can also be seen throughout the city. The Glasgow School of Art, which Mackintosh designed, is considered one of the finest art schools in the United Kingdom. Save some time and energy to enjoy Glasgow's famous music scene, too.

There are several budget accommodations in Glasgow, so you should be able to find one that you like. Just keep in mind that "hostels" are not just for young backpackers (even if the property has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - they're just the thing for any budget traveler who's interested in being social and meeting other travelers. A few noteworthy Glasgow hostels are highlighted below.

Glasgow Youth Hostel is in the historic West End and all its rooms are en suite. Euro Hostels has rooms for anywhere from one to 14 people right in the city center.

The Victorian House has 60 rooms in the city's center. McLays Guest House is a few minutes from many of Glasgow's museums, galleries, restaurants and shops.

If none of these hostels sounds like it's ideal for you, that's nothing to worry about. There are other Glasgow hostels listed here which you can choose from. Just read the descriptions until you find the one that matches your criteria.
