Why stay in Stockholm?
Sweden doesn't get the same number of visitors that countries like France and Italy do, but its fashionable capital of Stockholm is popular with anyone who's visited.
Stockholm's historical center is pretty and small, so easy to explore on foot. Nearby, you can visit the Royal Palace. There are also many museums in the city, including one on the 17th century warship Varsa. In nice weather, you'll want to take a boat trip through the islands that make up the Stockholm archipelago - some of the islands are destinations of their own, some are completely deserted. And in the evenings, you'll have plenty of options in the clubbing department where you'll discover that Swedish music is about more than ABBA.
Stockholm has lots of hostels to choose from. Keep in mind that "hostels" aren't just for young people anymore - they're just for savvy travelers on a budget who want to meet fellow travelers. A few Stockholm hostels worth mentioning are highlighted here.
City BackPackers Hostel offers free evening saunas and free WiFi in all guestrooms in the city center, 500 meters from the train station. Castanea Old Town Hostel is 200 meters from the Royal Palace and has a variety of room styles, from private twin rooms to dorm-style.
Renstierna Hotel & Hostel is a ten-minute walk from teh old town and seven minutes from the subway. The common room has a PlayStation2 along with the usual entertainment system. Langholmens Vandrarhem STF/HI is located on an island close to public transportation and is housed in once was what the Crown Prison!
