Why stay in Dubai?

Dubai might not have been on your radar screen 10 years ago, but if you are looking for shopping, hot nightclubs, great beaches, shopping, searing desert temperatures and shopping, you should look no further. Did we mention the shopping? Really, this is a playground for the wealthy (or those pretending to be) and the heat is not to be trifled with. Visiting Dubai in the summer is probably not the smartest thing, although the rates will be lower then.
Getting around Dubai is not as easy as in other big cities, as the bus system is not very extensive. If it is going where you want to go, however, it is a great option. Otherwise, taxis are easy to come by and Dubai is working on a metro system to be running by 2009. There are only a few budget accommodations in Dubai, mainly budget hotels and guesthouses, so if you are looking for a good rate - book early. Keep in mind that "hostels" are not just for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are ideal for budget-conscious travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers. A few Dubai hostels worth mentioning are highlighted below.
The Al Sharq Hotel is outside the center of Dubai, and boasts a nice view of nearby gardens. Pacific Hotel is a popular budget hotel located right downtown, near the bus station. Nihal Hotel offers lots of resort-like amenities and is very close to the airport.
If none of these hostels sounds like it will be perfect for you, do not worry. There are other Dubai hostels where those came from. Just keep reading the listings until you find the one that suits you.
