Why stay in Mexico City?
Mexico City, or Ciudad de Mexico in Spanish, is Mexico's crowded capital city which has thoughtfully been divided into reasonably sized neighborhoods so visitors (not to mention locals) do not feel too overwhelmed by the sheer enormity of the city and the number of people in it. But as overwhelming as Mexico City can be, it is full of great public squares, historic monuments, pretty churches and fine museums. With a little planning and a good map, you can navigate this sprawling city successfully and take in everything it has to offer.
Thankfully, Mexico City has an extensive public transportation network - the city's subway is one of the larges in the world - so you will be able to get around the city and to and from your hostel with ease (provided you remember where it is). The historical center of the city tends to have a higher concentration of hostels. Keep in mind that "hostels" are not just for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are ideal for budget-conscious travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers. A few Mexico City hostels worth mentioning are highlighted below.
Hostal Montejo is in a beautiful neighborhood within walking distance of many of the city's sights. Coyote Flaco Backpackers is a few blocks from the historic center of the Coyoacan neighborhood.
Bed & Breakfast Mexico is in the Zona Rosa area a few blocks from a subway station. Mexico City Hostel is a few steps from the main square and the cathedral.
If none of these hostels sounds like it will be perfect for your needs, never fear. There are other Mexico City hostels where those came from. Just keep reading the listings until you find the one that sounds best to you.
Is there anything else we can help you with for your trip? Remember that you can look for the best deals on international airfare to Mexico City and book your ticket now. You can also learn more about the area in our Mexico City Travel Guide.
