Why stay in Florianopolis?

When you think of Brazil, you might think of (among other things) beaches. Well, Florianopolis is the home of some of Brazil's most beautiful beaches. The city is stretched between the mainland and Santa Catarina island, so there are plenty of choices for where you can get your best suntan. Unfortunately, the area is not exactly "undiscovered," so during the high season it can get really crowded. Still, if you are in the mood for beautiful scenery and great beaches, Florianopolis is still a great option.

There are buses to get around Florianopolis, and though they are not always the most direct routes or timely solutions, the bus is cheaper than renting a car. A car is, however, the best way to get away from the crowds. In any case, your hostel will most likely be within walking distance of the beach. If it is not, make sure there is a bus route close by. It is important to remember that "hostels" are not just for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are ideal for budget-conscious travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers.
