Not one but four guys (see above) travelling around the world. A year later we still e-mail regularly and I have been invited to come stay with them when I am in UK. - Why do you stay in hostels, as opposed to other types of accommodation?

Why not? It's the best thing in the world, meeting new people and seeing other cultures. - What is your advice for other travelers wanting to stay in hostels?
Keep an open mind and you will be pleasantly surprised (oh, and bring earplugs for sleeping).
