Why stay in Lyon?
Lyon might be France's third largest city, but it gets far fewer visitors than cities half its size in this incredibly touristed country. So if you are looking to visit a place with all the amenities of a big French city - including Roman ruins and great cuisine - but without the onslaught of visitors that Paris or Nice has, Lyon might be just what you are looking for.
The public transit system in Lyon, including buses, trams and a subway, makes getting around easy - and you should have no trouble getting from your hostel to the main sights and back. Just make sure your hostel is near one of the public transit routes. There are only a few budget accommodations in Lyon, so if you want to make sure you do not pay a fortune for your room, book early. It is important to remember that "hostels" are not just for young people or the backpacking crowd (even if the place has the word "backpacker" in the name!) - hostels are ideal for budget-conscious travelers who are interested in meeting other travelers. A couple Lyon hostels worth mentioning are highlighted below.
Hotel des Savoies is a two minute walk from one of Lyon's main train stations. Hotel Berlioz is in the center of Lyon's historic area, 10 minutes on foot from the city center.
If none of these hostels sounds like it will be perfect for you, do not worry. There are other Lyon hostels where those came from. Just keep reading the listings until you find the one that suits you.
