Canada might be the world's second largest country, but in addition to its bustling and beautiful cities it also boasts some incredibly vast open spaces as well. In short, it's a fantastic country to visit - even though you're unlikely to see it all in one go.
Canada is a large enough country that you won't be surprised at the diversity both in the landscapes and the cultures. From the cosmopolitan cities of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver (which all lie not far from the United States border), to the prairies and cowboys in the country's center (home of the famous rodeo the Calgary Stampede), to the Yukon and Northwest Territories in the upper north (where you'll find arctic wilderness and mountains as well as explorers and adventurers), Canada is a feast for the senses.
The train network is nice, but it's often relatively expensive and it isn't very extensive. If you're not driving through Canada, your best bet is probably flying from point to point - especially if you will be traveling long distances. You'll save time (remember, it's a giant country) and you should be able to find a cheap fare on a budget carrier. A cheaper alternative, but one that will take more time, is the bus. Greyhound Canada operates a pretty extensive network throughout especially the more visited areas.
One of the world's wealthiest countries, Canada's accommodations can vary greatly from the very posh to the very cheap and everywhere in between. You'll need to be aware of whether you're visiting a touristy area in the high season, as the prices can fluctuate significantly. There is a great tradition of hostels in Canada, which is great news. Each hostel has its own personality, so make sure to check out the descriptions to be confident you're choosing one that matches your own personality. Some will have age limits (no one over the age of 35, for instance) to encourage a party atmosphere, but most will welcome visitors of all ages. All you need to be is social and you'll have a good hostel experience - and you'll save money as a bonus. Just select the cities you'll be visiting from the list on this page and read up on what hostels are in that area. You can also let the computer do the work for you - just put your travel information into the box on this page and it will tell you what's available when you want to travel. For more information about Canada's biggest tourist cities, read the Vancouver hostels and Toronto hostels pages, too.
And to finish planning your Canadian adventure, you can search for cheap airfare to Canada and read about what to do and see there in the Canada Travel Guide. Oh, and have a great time, eh?
