Youth Hostels in USA

The United States of America is a large country, and one of the more powerful and wealthy. With such an expanse of space, the USA has both crowded urban environments as well as beautiful rural environments with little or no inhabitants. To visit the USA in one go would be nearly impossible (many natives never see most of their own country), but a visit to any one region will give you a glimpse at something of the melting pot of cultures that is the United States.

Many people who come to the United States don't stray from its major metropolitan areas. While the big cities are certainly exciting and interesting, and while they each provide a different perspective on what the country is about, they are only part of the picture. The USA has a tradition of immigration on such a grand scale that it is truly the "melting pot" it claims to be. No one state or city could possible encompass all the personalities of the United States. Although cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami demonstrate the diversity of the country incredibly well, what visitors to those cities will not see is the rural center which takes up most of the USA. The stereotypical "Wild West" isn't so wild anymore, but there are still stretches of prairies, deserts and farmlands throughout the heart of the country where real cowboys still exist.

Depending on where you are in the United States, you'll either find plenty of hostels or none. If you don't find the word "hostel" in the listings where you're going, don't worry - cheap accommodations in more rural areas are often either motels or campgrounds. You'll be able to sleep cheap, it just might not be called a hostel. And despite the name, most "youth hostels" are not restricted by age. Hostels today are for budget-conscious travelers who want to get more of the local flavor of a place and meet fellow travelers as well.

To find the USA hostels in the places you'll be visiting, just choose a city from the list on this page and read more about each hostel by clicking on it. If you'd prefer, you can just put your travel information into the box on this page and let the computer search for only what's available in that timeframe. For more specific information on the most visited cities, you may also want to refer to the New York hostels, Los Angeles hostels, San Francisco hostels, Chicago hostels and Washington, D.C. hostels pages.
